Washington DC is the capital of the United States and home to some of the most intricate networks in the country. During my time at The Washington Center, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the world of networking, meet industry professionals, and gain valuable insights.
Through The Washington Center, we were able to attend some networking events. I was able to meet professionals from various industries, including cybersecurity, telecommunications, and government agencies. These events provided a unique opportunity to learn about the latest trends in networking, connect with industry experts, and expand my professional network. Some of these contacts were even interesting for my internship, as they were working for OpenStreetMap, and we use their api in the project I was working on.
There are many interesting individuals in Washington DC, but some of these people sprung out to me. One man I met was part of Homeland Security, and he was in the division that was working against human trafficking. He said that he himself was not an active field agent, but he was behind the whole campaign of posters you see in airports, and on the internet. He was very interesting to talk to, because people from Homeland Security are something you only see in movies when you don’t live in the US.
Washington DC is a great place to network at, and the people know this. They say that everyone in DC is a maximum of 3 people away from you, and it’s possible to meet almost anyone by just asking your network if they know how to get in contact with them.
